| The Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier
The Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier is a medium-sized dog. The males typically weigh between 35 and 45 pounds when fully grown; and the females weigh about 35 pounds when fully grown. Soft Coated Wheaten Terriers reach about 18 to 19 inches in height for a fully-grown male and about 18 inches for fully-grown females.
The coat of a Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier is always wheaten in coloring and soft and silky to the touch. Even though his coat is flowing, grooming is fairly simple and easy to maintain. Professional trimming is not necessary, but is certainly possible. A small bit of trimming on occasion is a good idea simply to give his coat a nice, orderly appearance.
The Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier does enjoy lots of exercise, but does not demand it. However, he is better for it. He responds well to attention, but is perfectly content on his own due to his happy go lucky nature. In fact, the Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier is thought to be a very undemanding animal who gets along well with other dogs as well as most people.
In the past, the Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier was used as a herder, guard dog, hunter, or companion. Today, he is recognized by both the Kennel Club in Britain and the American Kennel Club as an attractive pure-bred dog.
