Little is known about the origins of the Russian Blue cat breed but it is believed that the breed originated in northern Russian, hence the name. The Russian blue is a beautiful, graceful cat that is easily distinguished from other breeds. This breed is recognized for its short, plush double coat of blue grey color with each hair tipped in silver. The thick coat has a luxurious sheen and appearance.
The Russian Blue has a long, lean, muscular body. Its bone structure is finely sculptured. Its movements are graceful and have even been described as royal. The Russian Blue has brilliant, dark, emerald green eyes and large wide-set ears. It is a sturdy and long-lived breed. Its appearance is as unique as its personality. The Russian Blue, also known as the Archangel Cat is a favored breed in both shows and as companions. Russians are solid blue with green eyes but common imperfections may occur that include gold eyes or a white patch on the throat or underside.
Russian Blues are shy by nature but they develop close bonds with their human companions. They are quiet, playful and devoted pets. They can be very affectionate and loving. The Russian Blue is a very intelligent breed and is often noted for its ability to learn quickly. They have been known to do such things as turn doorknobs and open doors as well as other ‘tricks.’
Russian blues are gentle and affectionate. They get along well with children and other pets. They are not overly demanding as some breeds are and will quietly occupy themselves when you are busy or not at home. They do seem to like routine such as regular mealtimes. They bond closely with their human companions and will quickly learn your routine such as what time to expect you home from work or knowing when it’s bedtime.
Russian Blues are very playful even as adults and enjoy participating in games with their human companions. They are fiercely loyal and devoted to their humans as well. Russian Blues may be shy at first but they fit in well and quickly become valued members of the family. If you want a loving companion and the ideal pet then a Russian Blue is the breed for you.
