The small Lhasa Apso was first bred in Tibetan Monasteries as protection dogs for the Buddhist monks. Over the years, this small dog has become a favorite of many.
Always thinking itself a lapdog, the Lhasa Apso is fiercely loyal and protective of both its human and its domicile. Lhasa Apso's do require regular grooming and lots of affection. Lhasa Apso's are today, generally inside dogs. With the right housing, they are also just as happy to be outside protecting their territory.
Given the right socialization as a puppy, Lhasa Apso's do get along with other family pets as well as livestock. They can be trained relatively easily to do guard duty over small stock and fowl.
