| Dog Facts: Smelling and Hearing Senses
Dogs have an amazing ability to hear and smell. A dog's hearing registers sound at 35,000 vibrations per second while people only register 20,000. They're able to hear things from far away and even very low sounds nearby. That's why they make such great pets. Noises of an intruder won't get pass their ears!
Dogs are terrific smellers as well. Although the number varies by breed, dogs have far more sensory cells than people. Some dogs even smell very small things that are underground, such as fungus. When something's cooking on the stove, dogs can smell every single ingredient, not just the overall meal. Their sniffing abilities appeal to hunters and police because dogs can get the job done!
