AKC Doberman Breed Profile
The breed originated in Germany, around 1900, taking its name from Louis Dobermann of Apolda, a tax collector, who desired a medium size dog to perform as a guard dog as well as companion.

Doberman Pinscher SOS is a small, private, 501(c)(3) non-profit sanctuary dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of Doberman Pinschers. Rehabilitation may be medical or behavioral, and is often both. Although we give precedence to senior and special needs dogs, we sometimes have younger dogs available for adoption that only needed short-term intensive care. Lastly, we provide quality-of-life sanctuary for Dobermans who are not likely to be adopted, for example, dogs with advanced heart or spinal problems.
