There are many wonderful and unique breeds of cat in the world today, but the Chartreux is certainly one of the most unique and certainly one of the most beautiful. This majestic feline possesses a robust and muscular body, with the broad shoulders and deep chest of an NFL quarterback and the charm and intelligence that make it a trusted companion and family member. The Chartreux supports this robust body on four short and finely boned legs, giving it the ability to be a great mouser as well as a great lap cat.
Perhaps the most striking feature of the Chartreux is the beautiful blue fur coat it wears, and this unmistakable feature also gives the breed its name. The blue coat of the Chartreux is of medium length, with a thick and wooly appearance. In fact, the dense undercoat of the fur gives it the durability and feel of a sheep’s wool.
The Chartreux is also known for its lovely head and its beautiful smile. The rounded head and straight nose give it a smiling and pleasant appearance, and the gold or copper eyes complete the lovely facial features. The breed is quite friendly, and individuals will often become quite attached to the humans in their lives. In fact, the Chartreux is known for exhibiting an almost doglike behavior, often following family members around the house and greeting their owners at the door after a long day.
