 | | | | AKC Akita Breed Profile
There is a spiritual significance attached to the Akita; when a child is born in Japan, the proud family will usually receive a small statue of an Akita signifying health, happiness, and a long life.

One of seven designated breeds of dogs considered to be a national monument in their native country, the Akita was first bred as a fierce hunting dog in the northern mountains of Japan.

ARSA (Akita Rescue Society of America, Inc) was founded in 1976 by a small group of Akita fanciers who recognized the need to assist abandoned Akitas. The breed has grown and with it, the need for rescue has increased. Individuals and groups throughout the country have become involved in rescue work. The constant need for money to fund the work has become a responsibility of the Akita Club of America’s Rescue Committee and is supported by the club’s membership.

ARSF is self-supporting and we rely on our own fund raising efforts and donations to support our activities. Fund raising projects include raffles, garage sales, T-shirt and calendar sales, concessions, sales at shows, among other things. ARSF has been operating since 1985. We have always been incorporated as a not for profit 501(c)3 organization in Florida. ARSF provides shelter and care for approximately 25 dogs each year and answers hundreds of inquiries for information and assistance.

Akita Rescue Mid-Atlantic Coast (ARMAC) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded by a small group of concerned Akita owners. ARMAC was founded in 1984 as a chapter of ARSA (Akita Rescue Society of America), and remained a member until 1994 when ARSA was disbanded and its chapters became independent rescue organizations.

| | | | | | Akita Rescue NY
ARWNY is a small group of volunteers dedicated to Akitas. ARWNY covers a wide
territory to save Akitas because we care about the breed. We are here to offer
adoptions, health education, temperament information and training guidelines for your
Akita. If you own an Akita already, then the more help we can offer, the
less chance your Akita will end up in rescue. ARWNY does not want YOUR Akita
to end up a statistic!
